About the Book
Three photographic essays shot in Varanasi at the beginning of 2008. After traveling for months in India we arrived here, on the banks of the holy Ganges river, and were immediately drawn in by the city's ancient power. Death seems to permeate everyday life. Time stands still. The old and new merge into a labyrinth of culture impossible for the Western man to comprehend. Yet by documenting this place I represent a palpable imbalance: The clash of modern thought with thousands of years of tradition.
