About the Book
The Faithful Witness is a photographic memoir about the second-hand account of my witness and participation in the events that followed the direct actions of Ferguson leaders, protesters and community members in response to the non-indictment announcement that declared Darren Wilson, a police officer who shot and killed 18 year old Michael Brown in August 2014, innocent. I spent a total of 10 days in Ferguson, Missouri, a small city 20 minutes outside of St. Louis, with four other activists from Minneapolis/St. Paul. Our intentions were to support, participate and document protests and demonstrations from the vantage point of the activist. "Black Lives Matters" was not just a chant to keep everyone organized and together, but an affirmation of the invaluable nature of Black bodies, Black people, and Blackness itself. To date, there are no records that reveal any incidents of looting, violence or acts of destruction committed by protesters during Black Friday Weekend. I hope this book brings new perspective and understanding to today's movement, lead by young people color whose voices have awaken the nation into action. Fight the power and most importantly, love to the supporters of the people's fight for unequivocal justice for all.
