About the Book
A research project Investigating how the monetary value of "art" could be translated—in the form of an encrypted code.
Artist, Paul Gaugin’s oil painting 'Nafea Faa Ipoipo [When Will You Marry?]' (1982) is the highest price ever paid for a work of art, bought at $300,000,000 USD in 2015. The book contains Gaugin’s artwork into code—encrypted through a word processor and compiled into 470 pages of printed matter. Every line of code is present and layered over a halftone background created from distorting the original artwork, that is publicly available to view online (by a simple Google search).
This book is available through print-on-demand website Blurb. Subsequently printing $300,000,000 USD worth of code on-demand. Questioning if this translation maintain its monetary value.
