"The landscape everywhere, away from the river, is of rock --- cliffs of rock, tables of rock, plateaus of rock, terraces of rock, crags of rock --- ten thousand strangely carved forms; rocks everywhere, and no vegetation, no soil, no sand. In long, gentle curves the river winds about these."
--John Wesley Powell
Powell was not the first. Countless numbers came before. But his name has long been associated with the twisted maze of gorges formed by the Colorado and Green Rivers because he was the first to make a record of his journey.
We will not be the last, but like Powell this is a record of my experience of our trip in what is now the Island in the Sky region of Canyonlands National Park outside of Moab, Utah.
Four days, three nights ... but a lifetime of memories.
