About the Book
In 2005, I lost nearly 40 years of photography to Hurricane Katrina. I was naturally anxious to start rebuilding my portfolio. It wasn't long before I realized that photography as I had practiced it no longer interested me. With the advent of digital photography, I realized that I could create my own reality rather than trying to bend reality to my way of seeing. The images in this book are my first efforts in this new direction.

I was born in 1944. I grew up in New York City and Greensboro, North Carolina. I graduated from Greensboro College and The University of North Carolina. I moved to New Orleans in 1965 and began to photograph the culture of that singular city. Nothing captured my imagination like its unique cemeteries. In 2005 hurricane Katrina destroyed my negatives, slides and prints. Since that time I have continued to photograph these mysterious and wonderful sacred sites.
