Walk to Work (Standard Edition)

Click to preview book

Walk to Work takes the reader on an early morning photographic journey from London's Square Mile to the heart of Whitechapel in the East End.

Accompanied by observations and anecdotal social history it is a journey through a part of London which is rarely seen by people outside of its close-knit community.

Walk to Work is the visual record of an area of London which is continually evolving and now under threat from the march eastward of the financial district and the impact of gentrification.

120 pages, including over 130 full colour photographs, 10x8 standard landscape book.

I cannpt recommend this book enough! Featuring a beautiful collection of photos taken in and around the east end of London on the author's morning walk to work; hence the title. Louis has a real talent for spotting scenes that many would think of being "mundane" or "ordinary" but capturing them in such an eye-catching way that really makes you think. The book documents the amazing change of scenery in little over a mile, between the glass office towers around Liverpool Street, and the small market stalls serving the local communities around Whitechapel station. The standard of photography is excellent throughout; different lighting conditions being used to good effect, with colours and contrast on each image particularly apparent. Very much recommended for anyone with an interest in the east end of London, and for anyone who likes urban photography. My congratulations to Mr Berk!
