Working through the arts to help others is rewarding and can inspire cross-cultural understanding. Children the world over share many common needs: love, shelter, nourishment, education, play and more. Our goal is to give kids an opportunity to express themselves through illustrated narratives. We can all learn from children’s perceptions of the world.

Kids Share Workshops guide children in narrative writing and illustration. Team Leaders assist teachers and students in one-hour sessions (eight for the initial workshop, plus several follow-up visits within a school year). Simple themes help students learn to express themselves in groups and to create unique pieces of artwork. Kristina Applegate Lutes guides each classroom in the creation of a Superhero from tissue art, which may incorporate threatened or endangered animals, and convey interesting facts about a particular culture.

The Tibetan culture is endangered. We hope this book helps people understand the challenges facing the Tibetan people -- many of whom are living in exile -- and inspires Vermont kids to explore the tremendous possibilities of the creative arts.
