What if there was physical proof that the Super Mario Bros mythology existed a long time ago on a lost chain of islands in the Pacific Ocean?
Would you believe this fictional universe once existed if there was tangible evidence to prove it did?
In 'The Excavation of Mushroom Island,' archaeologist Logan Zawacki and his team uncover the greatest archaeological discovery of the century and document their entire experience. This book comes complete with a detailed chronology of the cultures that inhabited the islands between the Arcadic Period and the Early Snesolithic Period, as well as detailed maps of the landscape and site locations of each marvelous find. There are over 30 documented fossils to view within this 76-page softcover book. Each fossil comes complete with a map of their locations, scientific names, dimensions, and informative comments provided by the lead researcher, Logan Zawacki.
The 'Excavation of Mushroom Island' combines fact with fiction, pop culture with science, and technology with art to create the illusion of a "real" Super Mario World.

For anyone who grew up with the Super Mario Brothers, one might be quick to criticize a book exploring the history and origin of the characters. However, when it comes to Logan Zawacki's book, The Excavation of Mushroom Island, a true Mario fan won't be able to put it down. Extremely detailed, precise, and incredibly imaginative, Zawacki explores Mushroom Island for fossils, relics, or evidence to assess what life forms inhabited the area. Familiar characters are given scientific names and are dissected into in depth backstories that somehow seem to answer all our unanswered questions about where the Super Mario Brothers characters come from. I feel that the true art of the book is the original artwork created by Zawacki. Each "discovery" is accompanied by beautiful salt prints that really declare this book original. The immense amount of time and effort is completely reflected in the amazing works of art in the book. Whether you decide to view this book as a "history of Mario" or as an Original Art Book, I guarantee you will not be disappointed in The Excavation of Mushroom Island.

Every once in a while something comes along and sparks those wonderful memories that allow us to momentarily return to our youth. Excavation is a prime example of this for me. I own the book and have had the privilege of seeing Zawacki's prints in person. I must say that the beauty of his salt prints equal that of the detail and effort Logan has put into creating this book. Mario fans can relish in every detail from the names/story to the game-based maps as well as his clever images. The Excavation of Mushroom Island is another great piece of work from a truly creative mind. Now where did I put that old Nintendo?

The Excavation of Mushroom Island is so clever and creative. The thought and research put in to not only the art but the profiles of each character is just amazing. It's a kind-of history book of Super Mario and gives readers a different perspective on a childhood favorite. Really enjoyed it and can't wait to see what L. Zawacki comes up with next. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who's a Nintendo fan.

As an old school Nintendo fan, I can't tell you how thrilled I was when I heard this concept. I saw some of the original prints at an art show and was impressed. When I saw the finished book in person I was blown away. Logan Z. has put a lot of work in this project and it shows. It's an originally creative presentation of characters we have grown up and loved in a format we wouldn't think of seeing them in. It's truly a labor of love from a true fan of the source material. It's a fantastic book to have that will appeal to any Nintendo fan.

This book is a must have for any Nintendo/Mario fans. This book takes all of your favorite characters and items from the Mario video game series (Bowser, Wart, Bullet Bill, Hammer Bros, etc) and presents them in such a unique and scientific way that you could convince yourself that they actually existed. The book starts characters from Mario's first appearance (in Donkey Kong) and continues all the way through Super Mario World. There are little "easter eggs" throughout the book referencing facts ranging from the games' creators, the games' release dates, and their original Japanese names just to name a few. I'm glad I picked this up. Highly recommended to fans of Nintendo or classic video games in general.

My first reaction was nice cover and then I turned the pages. The art, photo's & writing in Logan's first book absorbed my mine to the depths of his excavation. The detail is un-real (ha ha) as you read the findings of each scientists at there site.
Logan's art & photography are some the best out there that I've seen.
So if your looking for a coffee table talk piece this is it by far....... Super Mario fan or not.

Tirelessly researched, thoughtfully composed, precisely executed, and curiously fascinating. All this, and it's completely made up! This isn't some Super Mario fanboy whimsy, this is as real as something entirely fictitious can get, right down to the scientific nomenclature. If aliens came to visit Earth and found this book, and they could read English, they would be convinced that the Mushroom Kingdom was as real as any other civilization.
Also, seriously, the author put over a year's worth of work into this book. It's a keepsake of the highest degree.
