IRAN

Click to preview book

Iran is an astonishingly lovely country with warm, courteous people, world-class historical sites to visit, interesting cities and towns to explore and exquisite architectural splendor to discover.

As we drove the long, dusty roads through the vast emptiness of desert, I scribbled notes to myself, and one reads, “chador ... shadow ... sound alike ... etymology?” Many women in Iran wear the chador, a long, loose robe made from a single cloth, worn over head and clothing as veil and shawl. Others step out of the shadows of the chador, as it were, dressing stylishly in the well-tailored manteau, covering hair with bright silk scarves. As it turns out, the two words, chador and shadow, do share a common derivation, travelling down the centuries, through Sanskrit and Persian, to English.

In my photography I have attempted to capture the heat haze and shifting shadows of Iran, along with the astonishing beauty of the country and her people.
