The objective of this book is to provide a hands-on approach to the investigation and application of a variety of advanced risk assessment methods, tools, and techniques. This objective is accomplished by discussing select topics followed by hands-on application to example exercises. Through these hands-on exercises, the reader will become more proficient with Bayesian methods and the use of tools such as SAPHIRE, Excel, and WinBUGS for numerical analysis.

We cover three key areas:
1. General probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) concepts,
2. Modeling techniques
3. Decision-making

Much of the focus will be on using advanced PRA methods in conjunction with SPAR models. In addition to using the SAPHIRE and GEM codes, we will be adding tools such as Excel and WinBUGS to our risk analysis toolkit.
