Westinghouse Ruins: The Life of an Am...

Walking through the empty space, it’s hard to imagine that 3,000 people were employed at this factory at its peak. Photographers Phil and Chris Buehler hope to show that this industrial ruin still holds meaning. The lives these workers lived extended far beyond the walls of the plant – they were neighbors and community leaders, husbands and wives, moms and dads, musicians and artists, inventors and war heroes, and much of what they built is still in use today.

The book juxtaposes 30 color photographs of the abandoned factory before it was demolished with archival material, including patent drawings and the stories of workers as told through their obituaries.

Phil Buehler is a photographer and visual artist living in New York. Chris Buehler is a student at Carnegie-Mellon studying architecture.
