About the Book
David Nieves is a native New Yorker and former New York City Police Homicide Detective. He made his transition from sleuth to photographer after retiring from the NYPD in 1999. Influenced by his close friend and mentor Pulitzer Prize photographer Nat Fein, Nieves began photographing New York's Hudson Valley as well as other places during his travels. He has also taken to the air shooting aerials of the towns along the majestic Hudson River. His images began appearing in various art exhibits throughout the Hudson Valley. His love of photography led him to publish the successful book (The Fein Story Behind the Pictures) about the famous photography of Nat Fein. Now for the first time, Nieves has put together a series of his own photographs presented here in this collection.
"I find it uncomfortable to be labeled a photographer when intimately knowing the works of the great master of the lens Nat Fein. In picking up a camera and looking through the viewfinder, my aspirations are to be more like Nat, in insight and soul. My pictures are merely a part of my continued journey to do just that and to have fun along the way." David Nieves.
