This book is many things: it is as much a personal thread through my days as a cancer survivor as it is a book on underwater photography – and this no fish story! This is a collection of over 100 of my favorite underwater images taken over the past 25 years. This has also turned out to be a documentary of sorts: it was sobering to realize that more species than I realized are now considered endangered.
Some of the portraits are international award winners, taken back when I entered such competitions – all before my diagnosis and recurrences of breast cancer. Other images are personal favorites or just plain interesting.
Diving and underwater photography have been longtime passions of mine, and this book is a tribute to those days when I was uncertain I’d ever get to see the ocean again. I used to lie there and mentally compose slide shows of my photography as a diversion from my treatments. It was the medicine for my soul. For those people who are battling a life-threatening illness, this book is a salute to you.
