The front and back cover photos are views of Mt. Tam from a park near my home in San Francisco. I can see it out my livingroom window, but not so photogenically. I can also see Mt. Tam from my workplace in Oakland, and I always know I'm close to home when it finally comes into view after a long road trip.
Mt. Tam isn't just some bit of scenery, of course. I guess it means so much to me because I've hiked all over it and photographed its landscapes and biological diversity for years. It grew on me like an old friend, and so I offer this intimate portrait of the Sleeping Lady.
