What began as a project where the author commented on pictures on the Internet, moved to a collaboration with the photographers of the images. One of the photographers turned out not to be who he said he was, and given the difficulty in obtaining permissions as well, the author elected to extract all images except his own that grace the cover and back of the book. What remains are prose-poems that the author hopes cover both the male gaze in a way that lends credibility through an eloquence that might not be present in the cat-calling construction worker's voice or in the words of the creepy domineering man in a business suit. At the root of their evil is that they are blunt and sometimes dangerous in their emotional nakedness and over-protection in not wanting to expose themselves. For in this light, a woman is all-powerful. This is a book that seeks as the last line indicates: “To simply offer the words, ‘You are beautiful; do you think me beautiful too?’”
Some of Mario's accomplishments include graphic design projects for The San Francisco Opera, a 300+ series of images called Urban Reflections with representation in the permanent collection of the Oakland Museum of California (soon to be released as a tabletop book), various literary works as indicated by A Man Looking At Women and a forthcoming reissue of his book uncertainty. Meanwhile, he prepares for law school.
