Here "les extremes se touchent" (The extremes touch).
Codex: fragments and schemata holistically encompasses my works, the pieces juxtaposed with the Gnostic (or schizophrenic) confessions that are my artist’s statements and fragmented graphics, in montage, to bring the reader into these empty landscapes. They are ghosts and abandoned places, and like any experience, leave their mark. The prose targets the self, not the ego, transcends the standard linear formula. Like the Zen koan, or the moment of reflection in which the memory does not come, that which lures by its absence, this montage seeks to evoke ‘the forms of an idea of a thing and its aspects, and bring the reader to succumb to the illusion of the whole’ (to paraphrase Jung).
It is to touch the gulf, invoke the sublime, the sublime, through these occult codexes, and the construct… of these fragments and schemata.

About the Author

Brian Burris
bmookfook  Worcester, Mass
I began painting at age sixteen. I was not ‘raised’, but grew in a vacuum, tutored by demons and angels, in a Spartan, Skinner-box hell. God is found in the solitude of disassociation, and these His initiatory rites. I left home at sixteen as well: lived a Bohemian existence (Jack Kerouac meets Hunter S. Thompson: paint, guns and bad craziness). Life itself was Art going straight to hell, quasi-Zen eye in chaos--the perihelion-approach to, and nihilistic pursuit of a violent, forced satori. My works are metaphor for psychological states, the semiotics of synchronicity, mysticism, summum psychology; allegory of an order underlying ordinary reality, silent confession, and ghosts. ~BKB
