About the Book
With no vistas, seashores, breathtaking landscapes or skylines to offer him easy photographic pickings, one man in one small city in Japan, with just a camera, a bike and a lot of free time must find his art the old fashion way, on his hands and knees with one arm tied behind his back! Well, not literally, but it must feel like it sometimes. Writing about oneself in the 3rd person is so much fun! Anyway, I am, sorry...I mean, Tim Dressler is an English teacher/photo-enthusiast living in Takasaki, Japan. When not correcting his students' pronunciation and grammar, he likes to spend hours and hours every week riding his bike through the back streets and sleepy neighborhoods of Takasaki looking for art in ordinary places. We/I hope you'll enjoy what he's/I've found so far.
I was born 5 July 1950 in San Antonio, Texas. Before coming to Japan in 1990, I was a better than average photographer in Los Angeles; mostly actors' headshots. Now, I'm a better than average English teacher in Takasaki, Japan. As an English teacher/photo-enthusiast, when I'm not correcting my students' pronunciation and grammar, I like to spend hours and hours every week riding my bike through the streets and sleepy neighborhoods of Takasaki looking for art in ordinary places. I hope you'll enjoy what I've found so far. In addition to the joy I have found through photography here in Japan, I have also found and been married to a wonderful Japanese woman for nineteen years; and I look forward to many, many more happy, healthy years together with her in our cozy little apartment in Takasaki.
