Blurb Announces Print Partnership with Scribd
Blurb, the creative publishing and marketing platform, today announced a partnership with Scribd, the world’s largest social publishing and reading site. Scribd’s users can now easily and affordably turn their written and illustrated works on the site into professional quality books using Blurb. The partnership leverages Blurb’s API to instantly convert content uploaded to Scribd into book form, meaning consumers can complete an order for a book within minutes.
“Taking Scribd documents into book form will elevate the impact and importance of the content itself,” said Eileen Gittins, Founder and CEO of Blurb. “Whereas other print forms are intended to be consumed, books have a valuable and extremely long shelf life. Blurb and Scribd have already identified over 1 million documents on the Scribd site that users can Bookify™ and turn into affordable, professional quality books.”
Key consumer benefits of the Blurb/Scribd partnership include:
- Professional-quality publishing – Blurb’s Global Print Network delivers high-quality printing and a bookstore-quality published book.
- No order minimum – Order one or many books.
- Affordable – Prices start at $12.95. Volume discounts begin with orders of 10 books or more.
- Fast turnaround – Blurb ships your book directly to your doorstep within 7–10 business days.
Blurb plans to open its platform to additional content partners when it makes its API public in the near future.
Earlier this year, Blurb reported record growth in 2009 with sales of more than $45 million. The company created and shipped more than 1.2 million books in 2009.
Blurb® was founded on the premise that everyone – not just the talented few – should be able to publish, share, and distribute beautifully realized digital and print books with first class production values. Whether creating books for friends and family, for business colleagues and prospects, or for global audiences who may wish to buy your book, Blurb’s platform is built for you. By creating a business model that enables the company to profit on a unit of one, Blurb has opened up the world of publishing to everyone who has access to a computer and a story to tell.
Blurb’s independent publishing platform offers the ability to design, publish, share, market, distribute, and sell both digital and print books. Further, Blurb puts book creators in full control by providing a comprehensive publishing toolkit: a suite of free book design tools including Blurb BookWright™, an Adobe InDesign® plugin and Adobe Lightroom® integration, a variety of print and distribution options, book format and paper choices, and online selling and social sharing tools.
Launched in 2006 by CEO Eileen Gittins, Blurb now enjoys global scale via more than one million book authors, resulting in nearly three million unique book titles so far.
