San Francisco, Calif. – December 19, 2006 – Blurb, the creative book publishing service, today announced that its BookSmart® beta release version 1.6 includes a Flickr Slurper. The Flickr Slurper, available in the latest version of BookSmart, free to download at blurb.com, enables Blurb customers to connect to their regular or pro Flickr accounts, and slurp their sets, groups, and photo streams as full resolution images into BookSmart software. Once in BookSmart, customers can view their Flickr photos by tag, sets, or group, then easily autoflow or drag and drop them into professionally designed templates to create a bookstore-quality book.
Blurb’s BookSmart application is free, runs on a Mac or PC, and offers a wide variety of templates created by commercial book designers. The software enables anyone to create, share, and distribute affordable, beautiful, bookstore-quality books.
“Blurb customers are already slurping images and text from their TypePad and WordPress blogs into books, so adding the capability to slurp photos from Flickr was a natural next step,” said Eileen Gittins, Blurb’s Founder and CEO. “We recognize that there are large communities of people who are creating digital content that they would like to bookify. Flickr slurping makes it even easier for our customers to get their high-resolution digital photos into true commercial-quality books.
Blurb recently introduced softcover books; Blurb users can now create a single file, then order books in either hardcover or softcover. Softcover prices start at $18.95 and hardcover (with dust jacket) prices start at $29.95 for a 40-page, 8x10 4-color book, with 80# coated, semi-matte paper, and professional print quality. Blurb customers can buy just one book or many; quantity discounts are offered at 25 units and up.
