T’Alyne Explores Rain in New Book
Artist T’Alyne was born in Colorado, grew up in Michigan, and has lived all over the world. Experiencing travel since a young age T’Alyne she taps that experience in the first of a planned series of books which explores water in its various forms. The first book is entitled “Rain: Dry season, Wet season” and is written and illustrated by T’Alyne based on environmental research and field work in different locales around the world.
T’Alyne drew from her many experiences while living in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, and throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. “New cultures, new environments, and weather patterns are universal experiences,” the author/artist said. “Rain is the primary source of fresh water for most area of the world. We are fortunate in Michigan to be surrounded by 24% of the world’s fresh water supply. Environmental awareness and protecting our natural resources are crucial if we as a culture are to survive.”
T’Alyne is attracted to color and large expanses of space. “I always love that feeling of being able to see vast distances. It is bold and fresh to express that in a visual medium. I pour paint and use my hands to push the material on fiberglass panels. I am able to achieve an amazing depth of space and richness of color similar to the glow in a stained glass window.”
The book captures the colors and temperament of the local surroundings with images and text. The painting titled, “Lake”, resonates the brilliance of the maple forests changing to fiery red during fall in Northern Michigan. Or, the painting titled, “Cirrus Flocus Cloud” which emits an ethereal soft blue glow of the Tennessee sunrise over the Smokey Mountains during a spring rainfall.
T’Alyne is currently working on a new series of paintings and research for the Cloud Collection. She lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan and enjoys the excellent bike trails, trail hiking, and river kayaking.
