About the Ebook
The Spirit Trees is a book of photographs made of the colorful peeling bark of the Australian eucalyptus tree accompanied by imaginative "legends" that explore the relationship between myth-making and the natural environment. These visual narratives - of animals, mankind and the supernatural - lyrically suggest the prehistoric visions that were the basis for many of the myths and legends of the world's oldest continuous civilization.
A unique work of art and visual ethnology.

About the Creator
The photographs of Charles Berger have been exhibited world-wide, including the Smithsonian Institution, and are in the Permanent Photographic Collection of The Museum of Modern Art (New York). His books Image Tibet (1973) and Flamenco Gitano (1975), were ground breaking documents of visual anthropology which used creative photographic techniques to convey ethnographically sophisticated information. In 1991, he developed the UltraStable color process, the gold standard for fine art photographic printmaking. Legends of The Spirit Trees was photographed close to home in Santa Cruz County, California.
