About the Ebook
Urban Decay
In 1975 "New Topographics" burst on to the photographic scene. The exhibition "Photographs of a Man-Altered Environment" changed the way people thought about the art of photography for ever. Images of the American West, which was fast being built on, showed the stark reality of the way buildings were thrown up quickly and how the wilderness was being lost.
To my eyes this theme was echoed during the early years of the 21st Century when the reverse of this development happened during a period of recession. So many businesses struggled and eventually faltered that sometimes only shells of the original building remained.
This brief book attempts to capture some of the mood of this time.
