About the Ebook
Kim Kardashian, O.J. Simpson, and Paris Hilton- what makes these people so integral to the fabric of American popular culture? Breaking the Pedestal of Idolatry serves as a container for all of the research and artwork that constitutes my fine art practice. This practice concerns itself with the dichotomy of the performance of self as observed in the attitudes and behaviors of celebrity figures. Entirely reliant on paparazzi and social media platforms for reference material, my practice attempts to present the most humanizing moments in celebrities’s lives as captured by the camera. Drawing on the influences of Jamie Bartlett's "The Dark Net", the artworks and concepts within this book explore why social media is so prominent and how the accessibility of celebrities in the 21st century, facilitated by social media and Internet platforms, continues to promote false identities and curated personalities of the people we "know" so well.
