Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photojournalist and "Denver Post" Reporters Publish “Ian Fisher: American Soldier” in a Blurb Book

San Francisco, Calif.—April 22, 2010— Blurb®, the creative publishing and marketing platform, today announced the launch of “Ian Fisher: American Soldier” which features the 2010 Pulitzer Prize winning photography of Craig F. Walker. The 106-page book chronicles Ian Fisher’s recruitment, induction, training, year-long deployment to Iraq and, finally, his return from combat. The book is a collaborative effort by a group of Denver Post reporters and includes more than 100 photographs captured by Walker.

For 27 months, Ian Fisher, his parents and friends, and the U.S. Army allowed reporters from the Denver Post to watch and document in intimate detail a young man’s journey from a student at Bear Creek High School in Lakewood, Colorado to a soldier fighting in Iraq and then back home. The book was designed by Jeff Neuman, photo edited by Tim Rasmussen and contains editorial reporting by Michael Riley, Bruce Finley and Craig F. Walker and was written by Kevin Simpson. The book includes more photographs, all captured by Walker, than have been shared anywhere else.

“Our work on this assignment has been reported in multiple formats from the very beginning of the project,” said Craig F. Walker, staff photojournalist, Denver Post. “By publishing the complete work in a book, we are able to share this story and engage the public in a tangible way. Of course, the first copies of the book are headed to Ian and his family.”

“This is a powerful, emotional and important story,” said Eileen Gittins, founder and CEO, Blurb. “Through incredible photography and reporting, this book brings to life for all of us the experiences of a young soldier being asked to serve his country.”

“Ian Fisher: American Soldier” is for sale in the Blurb Bookstore in softcover for $39.95. The multimedia project, including all the photos, video and special features, can be viewed at www.denverpost.com/americansoldier.
