About

Camilo Echavarría

The relationship of man and his habitat has been of consistent interest throughout Echavarría's different projects. His work approaches landscape as a cultural thus subjective entity central to mankind and transcends literal photographic representation by expanding the photograph's descriptive and narrative possibilities. Camilo's photographic practice involves also photography-based video work wich diffuse visual and conceptual frontiers between both mediums.

Camilo holds a B.S. from the University of Southern New Hampshire and a M.A. in Art History from Universidad de Antioquia. His education includes also the Resident Program at Maine Media Workshops and MFA studies at Florida International University. His work is part of the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (New York), the Colección Jan Mulder (Lima), the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago) and the Museo de Antioquia (Medellín), among other collections. He lives and works in Medellín, Colombia.
