Deborah Weinstein is a St. Louis based cultural documentary photographer. For 12 years she has focused her lens on an African American Pentecostal church in East St. Louis, Illinois. The outcome of this endeavor—“Anointed,” was the subject of her photography master’s thesis and has been widely exhibited in the St. Louis area. A portfolio of images from “Anointed” is in the permanent collection of African American Studies at both the Missouri History Museum and at the John Leland Center for Theological Studies, located in the D.C. area.
Receiving her A.B. and J.D. degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, and an M.A. in photography from Webster University, Ms Weinstein has used her prior experiences as an attorney, freelance writer, and educator in a multi-disciplinary approach to creating her documentary projects.
She resides in St. Louis, Missouri with her husband Gary.
