About

I choose to sculpt mostly in stone because it gives me the feeling of a vital and primeval connection with the earth, its evolution, and its many perturbations over the millennia. The forms that emerge are rarely pre-planned but evolve more from my instincts, my sense of observation, my imagination, and the visceral sensuality that is transmitted as I handle the stone. My sculptures are mostly abstract or lean towards abstract realism. I am currently exploring new avenues such as works on paper to link with the textures found in Nature and in my sculptures.
What interests me artistically and esthetically are the effects achieved by juxtaposing the raw stone, with its natural texture, imperfections and fractured surfaces, which contrasts with the highly polished areas and textures that I create. The tools in the hand of the sculptor thus become a metaphor for Nature’s evolutionary and transformational forces which polish, erode, texture, or leave in a natural state.
