I am a designer/weaver who loves to use natural yarns in my work. I am researching the beautiful folk bands from the Baltic region. After visiting Sweden to examine the wealth of woven treasures in various museums, I became particularly interested in Sámi weaving. I have analysed many of their beautiful bands to enable them to be appreciated by a wider audience.
|Spoiler alert: I'm thinking my next book will be about...|
|Swedish motifs for woven bands. The ingenuity and creativity of weavers in Sweden is amazing. There are hundreds of motifs, many of which have never been written down. In the 19th century, they would show off their weaving skills by weaving long apron bands with no pattern repeats. These bands were regarded as woven treasures and many weavers wove their initials and date into the band. They were justly proud of their skills.|
