Aum Nicol was born on the island of Trinidad and comes from a family of natural storytellers. "The Adventures of the Three Little Chickens" was told at bedtime, to her children (now grown), to her nieces and nephews, and set on the Canadian prairies. This tropical version was inspired by a visit to Trinidad and Tobago. She has taught for 30 years and has just published a collection of her classroom poems in the book, "There's a Poem for That".
Mrs. Nicol has written the book, "A Multicultural Alphabet: Embracing Canada's Identity". As a breast cancer survivor, she has visited schools in Canada, the UK and West Indies encouraging them to dream early in life and realize that there are always opportunities to make them come true. She lives with her husband, Chris Nicol, a college professor and basketball clinician in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
