Dan L. Hess was born on Long Island, NY in 1962. He received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and an MFA from Stony Brook University in New York. He currently lives and works in the Orlando, Florida area. He explained his working method as follows, “I have always been fascinated with the concept of an altar, a personal altar. A sacred place where something is consumed: material, time, effort and false preconceptions, while something, hopefully an authentic place of determinate presence becomes visible, on the verge of being consummated. I would love for the whole of my work to ultimately exist as a haptic investigation, both physical and visual, of the chiasm between the seen and the unseen. This being grounded by a critique of the theatricality of religious and political posturing and the exploitation of belief.”
