Since age 12, photography has been Dennis's passion, but for more than a decade, it has also been his living. He strives to make his work quiet, contemplative, evocative and filled with light. Always he seeks to inspire in the viewer a deeper connection with the natural world. Dennis believes that photography can be a powerful way to communicate through the eye to the heart and bring new awareness and respect for our amazing world.

Dennis established and managed Salmonier Nature Park, a nature education and wildlife rehabilitation centre in Newfoundland, Canada. As a instructor and tour leader, heand his wife, Antje Springmann, offer photo workshops and natural history tours through The Human Nature Company. As well Dennis is a regular tour leader with Adventure Canada. He has authored or co-authored seven books.

Antje and Dennis live in Clarke's Beach, Newfoundland, Canada with two very large dogs, a cat and 9 chickens.
