“I am interested in the unspectacular, ordinary things you may see every day, and recognize them as a photographic possibilities that contain new meaning.
Most of my pictures explore the experience of sight and attention. These photographs reveal everyday objects and locations and take note of human nature, in likely and unlikely places, revealing an often overlooked sign language in the world around us.

I have been working for 15 years as Dutch based freelance documentary photographer for The New York Times and The International Herald Tribune, on assignment by the Travel and Foreign Desk on features in the Netherlands and on travel stories. I also worked as a photojournalist for the Dutch national newspaper Trouw and national weekly magazine HP/DeTijd. Before that, I worked a few years as an ad hoc photo editor for the newspaper de Volkskrant.
