Hillary Prag received her Master’s Degree in International and Intercultural Communication at the University of Denver where she specialized in international development and photojournalism. Her work concentrates on developing programs that allow marginalized populations to advocate for themselves by equipping them with photojournalism tools to articulate their own experience. Her photography workshop program for at-risk youth began in 2006 in Seattle and has since traveled with her to Boston; Denver; Port-au-Prince, Haiti and, most recently, northern Thailand. Her curriculum is designed to help students access their traumatic stories from a workable distance with the camera and to train mental health workers to support the process. She is currently based in Denver where she works with refugee youth in the Denver Public Schools district.
