Since acquiring a Yashica twin-lens reflex camera as a young boy, Jim’s photographic work has concentrated on architecture and railroading, two closely related fields. His railroad photography, spanning some 50 years, has appeared in Trains Magazine, Passenger Train Journal, Passenger Train Annual, and numerous books and other specialized publications. As an early adopter of digital photography, he has exhibited his digital photography-based images in galleries in Portland, including Brian Marki Gallery, Studio 2507, and others. In the last 20 years, his other passion, historic preservation, his led him deeper into architectural photography in support of his research into early Portland residential architecture. This interest has given him the opportunity to photograph some of the most notable historic homes in all areas of Portland, including most of the homes open for the Irvington Home Tour each year since 2001. His architectural photography has appeared in both national publication
