Malia Movement Company started 25 years ago as a vehicle to heal Women through movement. As years have passed the dance company has stayed true to their grassroots of social justice and activism. It has morphed into many forms but never ventured far from the community by involving resident DJs, local poets, vendors, fellow choreographers and numerous theaters/galleries that aren't afraid to stand up to the 'establishment'. If you were ever fortunate to catch one of their performances, you would've walk away feeling a connection to the political roots that permeates the Bay Area.
Once the company turned 20yrs, Malia decided to take a break to focus on writing and created 2 more books, a children's book entitled "Mixed Heritage" and a compilation of Bay Area interviews, currently getting updated. She also enjoyed a year long teaching of Senior Hula at ODC. She currently resides on the island of Oahu, with aspirations of opening a theater there.
