Melissa Haeffner is a sociologist finishing a degree in Urban Studies and Planning, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to add to a Masters in Sociology from DePaul University. Her interests include merging the two disciplines to protect human rights of persons displaced by environmental change. She has studied communities in Ghana, the former Soviet Union, Europe, Central America and North America. Previously, she has taught at DePaul, worked as a policy analyst and has organizing experience with several non-profits. Ms. Haeffner is currently writing her next book on the role of NGOs in disaster relief.
