I am a filmmaker, writer, and teacher. My movies are not good for kids. Too scary and creepy. But my sense of humor, as well as my son's sense of humor, is very kid-friendly. Much to my wife's chagrin.
My son Gibson created Fartacus when he was nine. He has put his whole life experience into his creativity. Which means he likes to play around like a superhero. A farting superhero. So he's writing from the heart.
Spoiler alert: I'm thinking my next book will be about...
More farting adventures. Gibson and I have a whole universe surrounding Fartacus, and we have so many adventures in mind that we don't know what to do with them. Except write more books. So stay tuned for more!
Everyone needs to know about these authors and artists...
Gibson is ten. That's what you need to know. He has been dedicated to his original idea of Fartacus for years now, and he wrote this entirely on his own, between homework and Mario Kart. He did the artwork too. All of it.|
Philip is his dad. He's a moviemaker who has done some darker, creepier fare — and Fartacus has been a great excuse to get silly. He's guided Gibson through the creative process, and that has created some very strange dinner conversations.
This book is addictive. Read it. (At your own risk.)
One great thing to love about this book is its strong creative spirit and simplicity. In a time where every superhero is dark, brooding and troubled (hear that, Batman?? LIghten up!), Fartacus celebrates the power of innocence, and provides an empowering sensibility where kids really can help the world around us. No preaching here — just good-natured fun flatulent fantasy!
