Things I Don't Mind The World Knowing

Everyone needs to know about these authors and artists...
Among artists who have influenced me are Stuart Davis, who taught me to appreciate the "visual dialect" of signs and commercial graphics; Edward Hopper, from whom I learned to trust my color sense, and the value of pursuing a lifelong American vision; Walker Evans, who extended the possibilities of what a photograph can be, showing me the beauty inherent in honest utilitarian form; and Bruce Springsteen, in whose music is the America of my photographs: colorful, edgy, slightly down at the heels.
This book is addictive. Read it. (At your own risk.)
Walker Evans's AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHS. Also Robert Frank's THE AMERICANS; a beautiful new edition was recently published by Steidl.
