With my wife Rebecca as illustrator, I wrote "Sunday Dinner with Grandpa" for my adorable granddaughter, Lucinda, before she was born. I wanted to share with her my family history and the beauty (and the occasional pain) of growing up in old El Paso in the 1960s with my big, loving family and a life full of great tastes and smells, fun and sports, and friends I still treasure to this day. I wanted her to understand her heritage and my family's culture.
Rebecca has been drawing since she was in grade school. She's written and illustrated handmade books for friends, but this is her first adventure in (self) publishing. Her drawings capture the look and feel of 1960s El Paso, but most importantly, they convey the warmth, simplicity, and loving spirit I like to remember from my childhood.
