Sal Higgens was born in London on 8 June 1981. She studied painting at Wimbledon School of Art in 1999 and then at Brighton University between 2000 and 2003.

Sal has exhibited widely since 1995. Her work has been shown from London and Brighton to Amsterdam, Wellington and Auckland. Sal has been a finalist in several awards including Waikato Society of Arts Painting and Printmaking Award 2009 and the New Zealand National Portrait Award 2007. She was also the winner of the inaugural Empire Arts National Youth Art Award 2008.

Sal Higgens lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand.
