PLAYING, COLLECTING AND RESEARCHING IRISH FOLK MUSIC.
(MAINLY INSTRUMENTALS)
STUDYING THE IRISH 4 STRING TENOR BANJO. (ALSO CALLED THE SHORT NECK , THE SHORT SCALE OR THE 17 FRET BANJO)
TUNING: G D A E.

I started playing the 4 string banjo when I was about 24 years old. Before attempting to play the banjo I used to play folk music on guitar, mostly accompanying fiddlers and tin whistle players; just trying to give them the right chords. To begin with: Little did I know how to play the 4 string Irish Tenor Banjo. Choice of strings, sizing of the banjo and correct tuning where once a mystery to me. However, over the years trial and error eventually payed off. Nowadays I play the short neck 4 string banjo tuned G D A E. (The short neck banjo is also called the short scale banjo (17 frets). Finding one suitable system that worked for me has been a real struggle. I hope that you will appreciate with what I came up with in the course of time. See preview: "TENOR BANJO ~ SET & TUNES"
