About

Laura Wooten has been making art since she could hold a crayon, and her work continues to be influenced by the gardens and landscapes of her childhood. Her paintings and collages explore the intersection of observation, memory, and invention, presenting a richly layered view of her intricate and imaginative worlds.

Laura earned her undergraduate degree in Art and Architecture at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and continued on at UVa as an Aunspaugh Post-Baccalaureate Fellow in Studio Art. She attended the summer program at the Chautauqua Institution School of Art, NY, for two summers before earning her MFA from American University in Washington, D.C. in 1997. She also had the opportunity to spend a summer in Perugia, Italy at the Accademia de Belle Arti Pietro Vannucci, where the panoramic Mediterranean landscape took hold of her imagination. Her work continues to be influenced by her travels to far away places, as well as the familiar joys of home.
