About

Mariana Becker was born in 1978 in Mexico City. In 2002, she received her Bachelors Degree in Textile Design at University Iberoamericana. Becker started experimenting with photography during her college years, experience that gave her a place in the group show “Visiones del Viejo Mundo”. In 2003 she moved to New York City to pursue the art of photography as a career. Becker spent many years studying and assisting photographers, shooting weddings, food styling, headshots, portraiture and children photography. During this time, she developed a special eye for color, natural light, structural and clean photography. In 2012, she completed her Masters of Professional Studies in Digital Photography at School of Visual Arts, where she was honored with the 2012 Thesis Grant for Chrysalis, an exploration of 10 young women experiencing the tenuous and transitional stage of puberty. Chrysalis will be exhibited in Un/Common Skin, curated by Michael Foley, NY at the SVA Gallery, October 2012.
