Melanie Kendry was born in Yorkshire in 1979, in a tiny village clinging to the edge of a windswept moor.

When working at McDonalds didn’t work out, she knuckled down and got a job at Railtrack, which promptly collapsed. She then studied English at Oxford and became a teacher. After a few years in a boarding school and monastery in North Yorkshire, she settled in Sussex, became a tutor and started blogging about GCSE English, gaining 1.6 million hits in just over a year at http://curvelearn.com
