Yamil Sáenz was born in San José, Costa Rica in 1966. He is a nature lover and an avid wildlife photographer. In the last decade, he has photographed over 1,400 bird species and many other animals.

He is a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine and a Laboratory Animal Technologist. Currently Yamil works at the Radiology Department at Stanford University. In his spare time, he organize nature photography tours to the Brazilian Pantanal, Mata Atlantica, Costa Rica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, East Africa, India and the Malay Archipelago.

He resides in Arlington, Virginia with his wife Audrey Fisher, his son Morgan Sáenz, and daughter Sophia Sáenz.
