"Architectural Alterity: An Uncanny Manifesto of De-Familiarization, Displacement, and Dreams" , an Undergraduate Bachelor of Architecture Thesis by Eilís Finnegan, Auburn University College of Architecture, Design, and Construction. The uncanny is manifested through a sensation of being uneasy or uncomfortable by an apparent strangeness - this strangeness born out of an alteration of the familiar. This sensation is the bodily reaction of a mental state interrupted by projections of the real and unreal, waking and dreaming. The uncanny of an actualized space or encounter has traces of the repressed familiar and often results in the manifestation of repressed motifs that have been revived or given new life through warping by some impression.
