About the Book
This book is a photo study taken over the course of a month traveling the islands, coastal cities and villages of the Seto Inland Sea, a region a Japan still clinging to a slower more traditional existence. Starting in the Setouchi Islands which are dotted not only with fading fishing villages and Rokus but a vibrant assortment of art museums. Then Shikoku Island, home to the vibrant port city of Takamatsu and the beautiful Riturin Garden. Moving south through the mountains of Kagawa Prefecture the tiny farming communities in the countryside are seemly suspended in another era. Finally, the humble coastal city of Onomichi on the island of Honshu, the setting for Yasujirō Ozu's 'Tokyo Story' with it's daunting collection of temples, cobblestone backstreets and traditional Japanese bars of the Shingai district.
