      About the Book

      Edit

The first sketchbooks transcribed into in Volume One indicate how this second volume might evolve. Certain things became apparent quite apart from his proof reading errors. He missed correct spelling, accurate names and, dropped many typos. However their inclusion is after all the very nature of a real Sketchbook. The process of selection and page layout may intrude on the fidelity of the original which he has nevertheless always try to retain.

A chronological sequence is considered but in some years he produced three sketchbooks, and in other years there were none. It is from these very first impressions that a thousand paintings proliferated, many sold in exhibitions. Others appeared in projects whereby groups of selected artists gathered and books describing their purpose were published in Spain, France, Alaska, and Washington state, USA.

So he must dive deeper but remain ever mindful.

David has created a series of Books here for you to purchase - they draw from his photographs, paintings and sketchbooks many have a them some random - some never seen before. Apart from his career as a painter, David has taught art workshops from Pauanui to Noumea, Alaska to Italy and Spain to Washington State. They were always rewarding encounters and led to unexpected and new artistic ventures by all. David has offered an art workshop to some of the current art students attending Takapuna Grammar School where he himself spent formative years in the art room under the tutelage of the remarkable art teacher, Owen Lee. This was to be the start of an international career in his chosen profession as a painter that continues today at his studio on the Devonport waterfront.
