288 pages--A young man is living through days of desperation, adjusting to unrequited love from a former girlfriend. He waxes lyrical so as to keep the feeling of love alive in him. A writer owns up to two friends that it's all been a crazy story he's been writing. The friends offer their own stories to the writer. He records them, and then a new, overarching character appears, one who seems to be the creator of everything that's being written and who knows the writer and his friends intimately. In ending the narrative, he expresses his ideas on art and the spirit.
