About the Book
I play with different roles and role models produced both by the immediate family and our culture and society at large. Parents and grandparents, fairy tale characters, cultural icons and other historical figures show up in the images.
The zines combine old family snapshots, passport photos, photo booth and mobile phone images, childhood drawings, digital drawing and text. The images are made by using different digital tools and collage technique. Texts are in English and Finnish.
Marja Saleva is a photographic artist who lives and works in Helsinki, Finland. Her images are based on straight documentary photographs which she manipulates by using different kinds of digital tools. She often uses masses of images and text in her works. The themes arise from her personal daily life. Marja Saleva has made her Bachelor’s degree at the photography department of the Turku Arts Academy in 2013. She has a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Turku in 2001. Her works have been exhibited in several exhibitions in Finland and abroad.
